Summer Term 2020

We will be continuing our learning from home, until it is safe for us to return to school.  Mrs Rowley and Mrs Willett will be setting and marking work completed through our Learning Community.

It is important that families with children in Year 6 keep checking for further information about their transfer to secondary education.  If your child is transferring to Ormiston Sudbury Academy, please check the Transition 2020 section for information which you need to complete and send back to OSA.  If your child is transferring to Thomas Gainsborough School, please check your emails early next week as we have information to send to you.  Transition information from other schools will be sent to families as soon as we have received it.

In maths we are revising the topics which we have previously covered.  We want to feel really confident about co-ordinates, angles, shape, fractions and to make sure that we can carry out calculations carefully and accurately.  We recommend using your TTRockstars and Sumdog logins regularly to keep your arithmetic skills fresh.

In our English work we are revising all of our SPAG learning.  This includes: word classes; tenses; noun phrases; spelling rules and a full range of punctuation.  We will be looking at texts linked to our topic and using the reading skills we have learned to support our independent study skills.

In topic work we are moving on to the dramatic world of earthquakes and volcanoes, looking at how and where these occur.  Our science will focus on the work of Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution.

Our class book is Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters- the sequal to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.  I am reading this aloud and uploading episodes every few days, check the Storytime tab on our Learning Community.  I hope that we enjoy it as much as the first book.

Please use these websites to help your child at home.

End of Year Expectations

Please be aware that in 2020, due to the Corvid-19 pandemic, there is no expectation from the Government to complete formal assessments of Year 6 children. Information will be passed on to their new schools be their teachers, using teacher assessments completed throughout the year. This process has already begun for our children and their new schools will understand what they have already achieved in their primary school years.
