Welcome to Somerleyton Class. We are a class of year three and four children who really enjoy learning.

Our topic this term is Incredible Landmarks. We started the topic by looking at atlases and identifying different countries. Each week we will be learning about a different famous landmark.

This week we were learning about the Northern Lights and enjoyed creating our own pictures as part of our learning.

In English we are reading the book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Each week, we spend three lessons developing our reading skills, one learning grammar and two planning and writing. We are really enjoying the story.

Below are some of the imaginary worlds we created for our homework. We are writing our stories in class.

Each week, the children in year four have cornet lessons. In year three, the children are learning to play the keyboard. Alongside this, the children will have opportunities to listen and appraise and compose their own music.

This half term the children are developing their skills and teamwork through playing hockey. They have also been learning about dance and had the opportunity to create their own routines.

In French our topic is animals. We are also working on basic greetings and numbers.

In maths this half term we are learning about fractions and time as well as practicing our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills.

In Science, we are learning about rocks. As well as learning about different types of rocks, we have been learning about fossils and soil and planning and carrying out experiments.

In DT, we are learning more about eating a balanced diet through our topic about salads. After tasting a variety of salads and ingredients, we have planned and will be making our own salads.

In art, we will be learning more about Gainsborough and creating our own landscapes.

Today we had some visitors from Gainsborough House who worked with us to learn a little more about Giansborough. They then did some landscape projects with us.

This half term our RE is about Paul and his conversion on the Damascus Road. The children will engage with the meaning of the word conversion and develop their understanding through Biblical narrative.

In PSHE we are learning about ways to stay healthy and the importance of looking after yourself.
